What are tooth gems?
Tooth gems are small crystals or gold pieces that are safely bonded to the surface of your tooth using dental adhesive. They’re a temporary, non-invasive way to add sparkle to your smile.
Do tooth gems damage your teeth?
When applied correctly, tooth gems do not damage healthy enamel. The adhesive used is dental-safe and similar to what’s used for braces. The gem sits on the surface of the tooth and does not require drilling.
How long do tooth gems last?
Tooth gems can last anywhere from a few months to over a year, depending on your oral hygiene, diet, and lifestyle. They are designed to stay in place but may come off sooner if you frequently eat hard or sticky foods.
Can tooth gems be removed?
Yes — but only by a dentist. Attempting to remove a gem yourself or having it removed by a non-dental professional can damage the enamel. A dentist can remove the gem safely and polish the tooth afterwards.
Can I get a tooth gem if I have crowns, veneers, or braces?
Tooth gems will not bond to veneers, crowns, caps, or composite bonding.
They are not recommended if you have braces, as they may interfere with orthodontic treatment and oral hygiene.
Is the procedure painful?
No — tooth gem application is quick, painless, and non-invasive. No drilling or injections are required.
Can I still brush and floss my teeth?
Yes. You should continue brushing and flossing as normal. For the first 24 hours, avoid brushing directly over the gem, and don’t eat hard or sticky foods.
Can I whiten my teeth with a tooth gem?
No. Teeth whitening should not be done while a gem is in place, as whitening agents can damage or discolour the gem. If you’d like whitening, have the gem removed by a dentist first and reapplied afterwards.
What if I accidentally swallow the gem?
Don’t worry — the crystals and gold used are non-toxic and will pass naturally without harm.
Is there an age limit for tooth gems?
There’s no strict age limit, but we only apply tooth gems to adult teeth. Clients under 18 will need written parental or guardian consent.
What materials are used?
At Teddington Ink, we only use lead-free, dental-safe gems such as Swarovski crystals or real gold. Cheap or unregulated gems can stain or damage teeth, which is why we source only trusted, safe materials.
